News Update, Resolutions, and Brunel On The Net

Well Well Well,
you're wondering what could happen in one day time with such society? Well, nothing much but loads happen with the union we're affiliated to.

Just to share few stuff with you guys, there are new resolutions for the new committee that have been discussed after the elections, and on several bump-ups! Yes, when two random members meet they babble about the matter.

  1. Bringing in and attracting the scattered Arabs in the university. Unfortunately, a huge number of these students either have no idea about the society or lose interest for one reason or another. Therefore, we're taking extreme measures like individually contacting these students and introduce them more to our society.

  2. It came to our shock that the registered members of the society are almost 80 members. But when it comes to events and attending them, a maximum of 30 members show up. This is also something that we need to work on, we'd like to know more why wouldn't they come so we'd see what's been wrong (if there has been any).

  3. Creating a monthly newsletter. Many members of both the society and committee seem to have interest in writing articles about culture, sports and others. It came to our minds that a proper monthly newsletter which would include a digest coverage of previous events, calendar with events, articles, fun&games, galleries. I made a mock up cover a while ago. If you're interested:

But it still means nothing. The plus sign refers to giving EXTRA information. That's why it's titled "Brunel Arabs Plus - The Newsletter".

  4. The upcoming Ramadan should be a chance for everybody to mingle in Sharing-type Futoors. Ramadan this year will come to a time close to September/October which will be incoming of new students.

  5. Use printed media in a better way, usually many ignore e-mails. Posters, Flyers and so on are way the society didn't use for a while. This can be pretty 'harmful' as if affects the society in a bad way.

  6. Making the events non-exclusive. What happened lately, something good but not good for the society as a whole. The society became more of a little friend group, events were randomly coordinated, biding by the union rules and conditions was not on the top of the list.

But with the great efforts of the old society to set up a better situation for the upcoming new one, by the new elections there has been absolute sticking to the rules.
If you'd like to watch the World Cup matches on a good TV, rather than a tiny streaming of bbc.co.uk, you can go to LOCOS and enjoy watching them there. By the way, I don't personally drink (and neither should any of you Arabs should! hehe) but I like the Coke they serve. It's from a hose! Good, Cold, Fizzy and Foamy!

Now check this African Carribian Society Elections video done in Brunel University, it's such a nice feeling to see places and some people you recognize on YouTube!

Photo Of The Week

I like to pick from the old galleries of the society, they had days I didn't have and they're all filled with fun. There you go, a photo of Dr. Ziad Hunaiti (usually prononced Hnaiti).
